Devils lose home opener to Kings Point

Saturday morning in their first home game of the season, the Devils took on Kings Point, The US Merchant Marine Academy. Despite their hard work, Kings Point came out on top, winning 31-12.

Steve Prosperi scored for the Devils first; it was midway through the first half after Fly Half Kevin Walsh kicked a perfectly placed penalty kick allowing the forwards to maul it in off of a line-out. From that point on however it was a game controlled mostly by King’s Point, despite the Devils driving back the majority of their scrums.

There still were some great plays made by Binghamton including some great runs by first time starter Mike Konzel, and captain Nick Coppola who was able to break through numerous tackles and score near the end of the second half (conversion made by Kevin Walsh).

Binghamton elected Senior Flanker John Peters as the β€œMan of the Match” for his relentless rucking and counter-rucking throughout the game.

The Devils take on Stony Brook at Stony Brook, next Saturday 9/27, so come out and support Binghamton Rugby!
